Dream of the Sky

In the summer nights,
when hopes run high,
when dreams appear
and fade and die.
When grasses rise
and sway and grow,
and monsters lurk
above and below.
When people fight,
drinks tossed aside,
and crime is created,
illusions a lie,
and safety becomes
a secondary side
to the fun and the life
of the son and the bride.
In summer nights,
when hopes run high,
when dreams appear
and fade and die,
when you sleep in the dark
and are forced to comply,
I look out at the city
and dream of the sky.

  1. I wanted the poem to stand on its own, and didn’t want to bog it down with any reflective sadness or deep thought. But I did want to talk about why I wrote this one. We as a country are at a point where right and wrong don’t necessarily mean anything. We are at a point where victims aren’t victims, where men are boys and women are girls and that’s just the way it is no matter what. It is easy to feel hopeless. It is easy to feel dejected and alone and so, so lost. And you read the news and you see the comments and you think that nothing will change. But just as the seasons change, things will change. So dream of the sky, and let your voices be heard. Dream of the sky, and find a way to live.

And, no, I’m not trying to join in the hype on anything. But I’m just at a point that I needed to write out something. So here’s that something. Enjoy.
